      This is my final post for the class. I wanted to make last post commenting on Dr. Kelsey’s book Surfing the Tsunami and his post on branding. As I completed the book the biggest takeaway, I got was that I needed to embrace AI if I do not that it will be harder for my business to grow and operate. I agree with that theme 100%, I have been in business long to see all the changes that AI has brought and how those that embrace have been able to expand their business. Originally when I started in the investing business, I would have read up on the different companies to learn more about and decide if they were a good investment. Now through AI my partner developed a proprietary investment tracking system that with a special algorithm we can track 1000 investments at a time. Now I only look at the investments that have the highest rankings and can track more companies than ever before. This system is called JARVIS.

          We had spent a lot of time originally on the branding of our company with the brain logo and the name Left Brain Wealth Management. When it came to our investment tool that we continue to develop we felt that if needed its own branding. The thinking behind it was that other investors or wealth mangers could use the tool. Since we wanted to make it open to other advisors, we decided a different brand would be appropriate. My partner hired a branding firm called Lucky Frog and came up with JARVIS. We have recently been issued a trademark on Jarvis and will use that to brand our unique investment tool.

      I am now six classes away from completing the MBA program once this class ends. I took a journey six years to make the decision to leave one of the biggest investment firms and partner up with someone who had the same desire to go independent and create an investment firm on his own terms. It turned out it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The business decision also effected the rest of my life and changed my quality of life. Unfortunately, I still got divorced but that was going to happen regardless. The decision has allowed me to become financially secure and even through stressful events like a divorce it has allowed me to remain financially secure and still provide for my family and not have to worry about the divorce being financially devastating as well.

          As I consider the future, I know I am at the top of my career. I have been working 25 years to get this point and it feels amazing to finally get there. The reason for me getting my MBA is to continue to self-improve. I want to learn more and network with others and learn from them. As I read Ascend Your Start-UP it reminded me of the journey I took to get where I am. I realize that the journey never actually ends as there is still more to learn and do. I focused so much on investments that I did not focus on marketing and if I want to continue to grow our small firm then marketing will play huge part of it. I am not looking to become a marketing specialist, but I do want to learn more about it and then perhaps partner up with someone who is an expert in that area.

      As I am now in the last week of class I have completed all the readings and most of my posts. I think this week post on google ads and how they are more efficient way to advertise. I had some experience running Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter campaigns but none of them were successful. Promoting my business was not a priority but I realize if I want to grow the business and pass it on to my son then I should market the business.

          In Guerilla Marketing the most important thing I learned was growing the brand awareness. To grow the brand, it must be advertised. Dr. Kelsey talks about using the pay per click googles ads. The pay per click is very cost effective and lets Google technology do the work for you. It is very important that you give it time. I started running my google add and pay when someone clicks on it so it will allow me to run the ad for more tie and let the momentum grow. So, I would agree this method of advertising could turn out to be more cost effective for my business then the other social media platforms.

      It has been a full week since I launched my google ad campaign. I set a daily spend amount to not exceed $30 per day and so far, I have not reached that on any day. So far, I have spent around $36 and have had 724 views.  I learned that is does take time for Google to learn how to place the ad so I will run it for a minimum of three months. I entered a common search word in the title of the ad.

 

          I have always had plenty of content to put and have placed post on LinkedIn and Facebook and our YouTube channel. The problem we have always had is getting our content in front of enough people. The ad campaign will help. I have attached a photo of the YouTube channel that shows the video that has a campaign has 724 views versus our other content that may only have 40 or 20 views.

      As I finish Ascend Your Start-UP the main theme, I got was the importance of knowing your mission. AI has allowed many people to pursue their mission. My mission when I joined a startup investment advisory firm was to have flexibility and focus on customized investments for my clients. AI has allowed me to achieve this mission by taking advantage of advancement in technology. Sophisticated trading tools and using proprietary algorithms to track stocks and mange portfolios has allowed me to complete my mission.

 

I am not alone in using AI to complete my mission the article reminded me of the many marketing companies that are using AI to create a business. The article Dr. Kelsey references talks about how marketing companies are using AI to create content. One example was how a company called Jasper uses AI to create content for companies so they can get their message out there. I get approached from these types of companies all the time and just signed up to use Snappy Kraken. Many businesses struggle to create content so I can see how this can be a big benefit for them. Our struggle has never been content we have plenty of it. Our struggle has been getting people to see our content. We just signed on to use Snappy Kraken so we will see how their AI generated content compares to our in house created pieces.

      As I finish Dr. Kelsey’s book Surfing the Tsunami I just keep thinking about the major theme of the book. Technology keeps advancing and like a powerful wave sweeps away the old and keeps changing our daily lives. For those who don’t adapt they will be swept away but for those that adapt AI they will continue to see all the potential opportunities that it brings.

         I just keep noticing how much AI has changed my life. From very small things to very big things like making work and life easier. In work the trading tools I use are more advanced than what I used 20 years ago. In life carrying a portable computer with you that is customized to you and allows you to communicate with people in many different formats has now become priceless to me.

         The newest area I wanted to share is something that just happened recently. I will share the video below. I received in the mail a video invitation. The invitation was a small card and when you open it a video plays with a customized message. I expect this via email, but this was physical and most times I throw out paper mail, but I opened and listened to this one. I was very impressed and just kept thinking is the future of physical invitations.

          Since my add started running yesterday thought I would check and see how it was going. When I logged in, I was surprised to see no clicks and more importantly no impressions. I called the Google Ad specialist to see if perhaps I had done something wrong. I understand the zero spend, I only pay when someone clicks on the add but the fact that I had zero impressions was very concerning. It took a while to get someone, but I was finally assigned a Google Ad Specialist that explained to me the amount of AI involved.

          The ad specialist explained to me that since the ad was new that it was still trying to learn how to best place it. The algorithm behind it tries to figure out how to best place the add. The AI behind it seeks to optimize the appropriate place for the add and it takes some time but once it figures it out the impressions start to happen quickly. The process can take about two weeks for the add to reach full optimization. I had placed the ad to run till the end of the month so I quickly changed to run for 90 days that way I could see what the add specialist was telling me is true. I refreshed the ad and at the end of the call I had 10 impressions. A couple years back a colleague of mine had run an add but had no success. I remember he only ran it for two weeks so perhaps that was the problem that he didn’t give it enough time. I will find out in a couple of months how the add does.

          I finally created my first google ad campaign. I have completed all the reading for class first and even read Dr. Kelsey’s additional book Introduction to Search Engine Marketing and AdWords. I wanted to get further along in the readings before placing my ad. The key for me was trying to find a marketing piece that would get me the most attention. Key words and associations from what I have read are important for the success of an ad. For my business the key words are investing and retirement planning.

         


    I was recently a guest on the Retire Happy Hour Show that will air on ABC, FOX and CNBC. I knew I was going to take my segment and run it for my Google ad campaign. I made sure to use all the key words needed for the audience I was trying to attract. I just created the campaign and set a daily $30 dollar budget to run till the end of the month. I was very tempted to increase the daily budget, but I decided the daily budget will only matter if a lot of people are clicking on the add. As I monitor the campaign, I can always increase the budget if I am getting a lot of clicks. I will report back next week on the results I have and will then show the process for the final project.           As I was reading Guerilla Marketing I got to chapter 17. The chapter has to do the importance of psychology on marketing. Therefore, brands are so important when it comes to marketing. The branding is what we first think of a company and how we associate with them. The most successful companies in the world have some of the most memorable branding. Our purchasing decisions are triggered by our emotions. We use our emotions to justify the decisions we make. Appealing to someone’s emotions are key so a brands image appeals to a person’s brain causing them to make their decisions.

          The chapter discus’s the different segments of the brain the right and left. The right part of the brain responds to emotion and esthetic appeals. The left brain responds to logical and sequential reasoning. I enjoyed this segment a lot because the name of our firm is Left Brain Wealth Management. Our brand appeals to using logic when it comes to investing decisions and limiting the emotion. Our brand is based on the way investing should be done and a lot of thought was put in choosing a name for the firm. We wanted a name that would really connect with our brand, and I think it was great choice as I am always getting asked about the name.

          The post this week discussing how important it is that we embrace AI and try to get involved in a company that uses AI. Dr’ Kelsey implores us to get involved with a startup company that uses quantum computing and AI. I think of the financial services industry and how AI has affected it. AI was used to expand an investment management style called indexing. The concept of indexing started in the 1970’s and it is basically passive investing versus active. Instead of picking individual names indexing just picks the entire category. AI has made it easier for indexing investing and has created indexes in every category. I believe active investing is a better form of investing than passive. AI has also been used recently to create entire portfolios called Robo Investing. So far using a Robo advisor has underperformed active management.

          As I was reading Ascend Your Start UP I thought to myself there can be a different way to use AI in investment management and still be an active investor. Chapter 5 discusses acclimating yourself to your customer. Our investment philosophy that we promise to our clients is trying to find stocks that have the ability to double in two to three years. Using an AI algorithm that tracks over thousand securities allows us to use AI to continue our active investment style to look for stocks that have the ability to do what we are trying to accomplish for our clients. The proprietary system we developed allows us to track more stocks using AI that we would be able to individually research on our own. I feel using this form of AI separates us from other money managers.

          The post this week really tied into Dr. Kelsey’s book Surfing the Tsunami. The interview he did with Jack Hidary strongly reinforces the need to get involved in quantum computing and AI in some sort of fashion. Hidary discusses in his book the need to increase the work force in quantum computing and Dr. Kelsey emphasizes why you should consider getting involved with an AI company, so the two books are a great compliment to each other.

          Dr. Kelsey in Chapter 4 of the readings this week discusses the three steps to consider when it comes to AI. Step 1 adapt, learn more and pay attention to what is coming. Step 2 adopt, begin using tools and platforms that use AI so you can be involved. Step 3 adept, get directly involved by developing AI with coding and other related data. Once you are convinced the next step is to find out what training you need to take these steps. The chapter goes on to encourage you to stop being passive and become active and make it part your daily routines so getting involved in AI can become a habit.

          I stared Chapter 3 of Dr Kelsey’s book Surfing the Tsunami this week. I am a believer in AI and the strong impact it has had and will continue to have. I have seen AI impact almost every sector. The book discusses how many people are pessimistic about AI, but I am on the optimistic camp. I believe AI will do a lot of good and can improve our over all quality of life.

AI will also have some negative impacts as they will replace humans for jobs. I just read in Fox Business News that US robot orders surged 40% as labor shortages and inflation persist. https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/robot-orders-labor-shortages.  Unfortunately, the Robots replace humans for jobs but on the positive side there is a labor shortage that was not being met by human capital. AI was able to fill the labor shortage need and will also do it in a much more cost-effective manner that will help during inflationary periods that we are currently experiencing.
